Knitted fabric industry has been undergoing a profound transformation driven by sustainability pressures, rapid digitalization, and the diffusion of Industry 4.0 technologies across design, production, and supply networks. Because decision contexts in knitted textiles are inherently multi-dimensional—balancing cost, quality, speed, flexibility, sustainability, and innovation capacity—multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) provides a rigorous lens to structure strategic choices. This article presents (i) a literature review that integrates (i) current technology and innovation trends in knitted fabrics (smart textiles, sensors, 3D spacer knits, eco-innovation), (ii) theoretical foundations relevant to innovation strategy (resource-based view, dynamic capabilities, absorptive capacity, open innovation, and diffusion), (iii) sustainability and circular economy imperatives in textiles, and (iv) prior applications of MCDM in textiles and supplier/technology selection. Without conducting an empirical analysis, we synthesize these strands to outline a conceptually grounded MCDM criteria frameworkfor innovation strategy in the knitted fabric industry. We conclude by identifying research gaps on data quality, cross-functional criteria weighting, and the integration of life-cycle thinking with factory-level digital twins. This study was supported by the advisor faculty member during the consultancy provided to the textile sector within the scope of the “Inosuit Project” of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM).
